SPC Industrial Hygienist

The Industrial Hygienist position is responsible for recognizing and evaluating potential occupational health hazards and for developing and managing control measures that are designed to mitigate potential occupational illnesses that comply with the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations. This position will be located at Southern Power Company Corporate Headquarters in Birmingham, AL or Atlanta, GA and has job responsibilities at company facilities located throughout the continental US.
Job Responsibilities:
Provide industrial hygiene support for Southern Power, including rendering advice on specific compliance measures
Conduct employee exposure assessments
Evaluate and interpret rules and regulations
Develop and deliver compliance and training programs
Develop, implement, manage and maintain the industrial hygiene programs - Significant travel throughout the continental US, primarily in Georgia, Alabama and North Carolina. This role will including regular overnight travel
Job Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Hygiene or related field is required
Certified Industrial Hygienist in comprehensive practice by the American Board of Industrial Hygiene is preferred
Board of Certified Safety Professionals certification a plus
Minimum of 5 years industrial hygiene experience is preferred; preferably within utility, industrial, or manufacturing business sector
Work experience in general safety principles and practices and ergonomic assessment tools and solutions is a plus
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Working knowledge of state-of-the-art IH exposure evaluation technologies, personal protective equipment and engineering control measures
Broad knowledge of OSHA rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
General knowledge of environmental laws and regulations that are inter-related with OSHA rules (SARA, TSCA, RCRA, NESHAPS, AHERA and state equivalents)
Strong computer skills including proficiency with core Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)

This role will be responsible for conducting in- house and field research studies; acquiring, maintaining, and operating portable measurement equipment; conducting risk assessments, management of research data for final reports, and preparing publications for peer reviewed journals.
This role will be a part of a collaborative internal and external research team in the study of indoor/outdoor air quality and other environmental pollution and its impact on health. The Leidos Civil Group is seeking a dynamic Environmental & Safety Professional to join the National Airspace System Integration Support Contract (NISC IV) team.
The position will be supporting the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) Eastern Service Area (ESA) NISC support team with the goal of providing outstanding customer service to the FAA’s Environmental Occupational Safety and Health (EOSH) Program.
In general, this person will be a part of a larger team of EOSH professionals that supports the FAA’s ESA, and will support the Atlanta (ATL) District and Eastern Service Area EOSH team. The candidate will responsible for supporting many multi-faceted EOSH programs, and will be required to maintain applicable training and certification requirements as necessary. These programs include (but are not limited to) Asbestos, Lead, Mold, Chemical Management, Emergency Response, Electrical Safety, Water, Fuel Storage Tanks, and Fall Protection. The candidate will provide direct support to multi-level customers in Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Tennessee. The position may be located in Atlanta, Georgia. The person will be required to work independently, and be able to provide quick response support for unplanned events. The work hours are normally 7 – 3:30, Monday thru Friday but can vary based on client support needed.
Specifically, the chosen candidate will have experience in writing reports with strict reporting deadlines. This includes extensive experience sampling and interpreting analytical reports and being able to identify exceedances in those reports. The selected candidate must be able to provide comprehensive technical EOSH training to employees as requested. The selected candidate must be independently develop EOSH and Industrial Hygiene (IH) sampling plans, propose mitigations, and make recommendations to management and clients. The candidate will must also provide EOSH/IH training to employees as requested The selected candidate must have excellent customer service skills necessary to interact with senior level management and internal and external customers, as well as foster an environment of cooperation between different departments and co-workers. The chosen applicant must be a self-starter, able to work independently and with minimum supervision. This is a full time position that requires up to 40-50 percent travel. This position may be virtual OR at the customer site as requested.
