    The Safety & Risk Management Director will work at the ESG Operations, Inc. Corporate Office in Macon, GA.  You will lead the implementation and management of ESG Corporate Safety Policies and Risk Management Program; manage the safety audit and risk assessment program; and manage, coordinate, and conduct safety training.  We are looking for you to be able to travel up to 50% of the time.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

    • Lead and promote an effective Safety and Risk Management Program for ESG Operations, Inc.; including partnering with ESG Management to develop and implement Safety Goals and Priorities at multiple facilities in five states.  
    • Manage the Risk Assessment Program to identify risks to the employees and public associated with ESG project operations. Partner with ESG Management to develop and implement safe work procedures, engineering and administration controls to reduce injury risk at ESG Operations.
    • Lead the Safety Training and Education Program. Coordinate and/or conduct Safety Training on a variety of subjects to include: technical safety subjects (confined space, lock out tag out, hazard communication, etc.); safety leadership for managers and supervisors; safe work procedures and processes; proper safety behavior practices; and other subjects to assist in the goal of risk and injury reduction.
    • Provide health and safety support to ESG managers and employees to consult, confer and provide assistance on employee safety related matters and risks.  Perform due diligence of potential new projects and Health & Safety start up support for new projects.
    • Manage the Health & Safety Audit Program to identify hazards and safety program deficiencies at ESG projects. Develop action plans to address the hazards and deficiencies; and work with project management to implement leading edge and cost effective control and improvement actions.
    • Lead the Incident Investigation / Analysis Program to identify root causes and control measures for accidents, injuries and losses.

    ·         Maintain accident-injury records and related costs and loss in coordination with existing systems and reporting; maintains departmental safety reporting system to include reports and follow-up, and statistical analysis of work-related injuries in order to make recommendations for reducing such injuries.

    • Lead the Injury Management and Worker’s Compensation Management Program from injury reporting to return to full duty. This will include initial injury management, monitoring of diagnosis and treatment, Return to Work and Fitness for Duty requirements. 
    • Provide support and direction for ESG’s Emergency Management Programs.
    • Manage Fleet Maintenance and DOT compliance programs ensuring records, inspections and forms comply with local and state rules as well as Federal Department of Transportation regulations.
    • Maintain knowledge and technical proficiency of safety, risk management, and applicable personnel laws, regulations, and policies; including all related federal, state and local laws and ordinances; applies principles and methods of safety engineering; understands the operation of equipment used and materials handled or can readily acquire such information.

     

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree or higher preferred but will accept experience in leu of degree
    • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and/or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or the ability to achieve one of the certifications within 5 years of hire date.
    • 10 years of experience in safety and risk management
    • Must have a valid driver’s license
    • Willing to work in both a professional office and utility setting
    • Required travel – up to 50%

    Job Summary:  

    The purpose of this position is to ensure Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) compliance, focusing on occupational safety programs. Responsible for managing and administering company policies and procedures to support Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards, other local/state/federal EHS regulations, and industry best practices to ensure compliance across regionalized Southern Company Gas employee work groups and territories (including non-reg).

    Job Summary:

    The purpose of this position is to ensure effective administration of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) Process Safety Management (PSM) program as “Best Practice” guidelines for Southern Company Gas facilities and operations.      INDUSTRIAL HYGIENIST -- NIOSH FELLOWSHIP POSITION

                               Location:  FIELD RESEARCH BRANCH, CINCINNATI, OHIO

    WHAT IS NIOSH? – The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) is a multidisciplinary research institute of the federal government that was established in 1970 to conduct research and make recommendations for the prevention of work-related illnesses and injuries. NIOSH is one of the centers of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). NIOSH is currently recruiting for a research industrial hygienist through the CDC fellowship program to work.

    FIELD RESEARCH BRANCH – We conduct occupational health and exposure research. The results are used to help make industry wide recommendations regarding safe levels of exposure in the workplace and are accomplished by conducting mortality/morbidity and exposure assessment studies to

    (a) characterize workplace exposures,

    (b) identify the occupationally related causes of disease in the working population,

    (c) determine the incidence and prevalence of acute and chronic effects from work related exposures to toxic and hazardous substances, and

    (d) provide information needed to develop recommendations to reduce workplace exposures and illnesses and standards for the control of occupational health hazards.

    DESCRIPTION OF POSITION – The candidate for this position will conduct independent occupational exposure research conducting industry-wide studies of hazardous agents. The responsibilities of the position include: 

    ·         assist in identifying and establishing study related points of contact,

    ·         organize and support industrial hygiene sampling and exposure assessment field studies,

    ·         develop exposure assessment study protocols,

    ·         participate in and oversee exposure data collection in field studies,

    ·         analyze data, and

    ·         write scientific manuscripts for publication in peer reviewed journals.

    The studies will likely focus on exposures of firefighters, nail salons, and other service workers. Other studies will focus on occupational exposures to chemical agents that are concurrently being tested by the National Toxicology Program. Some travel will be necessary for field studies and scientific meetings (<20%). This is a full time position being offered as part of the CDC service fellowship program under Title 42 of the U.S. Code. CDC service fellows are considered federal employees with most of the rights and benefits provided to permanent employees. The initial fellowship appointment will be for two years. Salary will be based on education and experience. A candidate with a master’s degree will start at the GS-9 with eligibility for GS-11 at one year. Candidates at the PhD level will start at the GS-12 level. Fellows will be eligible for government health and retirement benefits.

    SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED – The successful applicant will have at least a Masters of Science in industrial hygiene or related field with a solid educational background in some, or all, of the following disciplines: exposure assessment, toxicology, risk assessment, biochemistry, and statistics.     Safety & Health Specialist (Corporate) – Downtown Atlanta

    Location: Position will be located in Georgia Power's Corporate Office at 241 Ralph McGill Blvd, Atlanta, GA 30308

    No relocation benefits will be provided. Successful candidate must live within a 50 mile commute of the work location OR be willing to quickly relocate within a 50 mile commute at his/her own expense.

    This position requires frequent travel (including overnight) throughout Southern Company's footprint - Georgia & Alabama

    JOB SUMMARY

    • Work with management and employees to develop and implement injury avoidance and accident prevention programs that assure compliance with all internal and external safety policies, regulations, and procedures

    • Analyze, develop and coordinate training programs assure compliance and improve safety performance

    • Support and coordinate of safety initiatives for Southern Company such as Safety Excellence and Southern Lifestyle and Wellness initiatives

    • Support business units with implementation of Safety and Health Management System

    JOB QUALIFICATIONS

    Education

    • Bachelor's degree is preferred

    Experience

    • Prior experience developing, implementing, and assuring compliance with safety& health policies and procedures as a Safety and Health professional is desired

    • Prior experience developing and implementing injury avoidance and accident prevention programs as a Safety and Health professional is desired

    • Prior experience and knowledgeable of accident prevention and investigation procedures as a Safety and Health professional is desired.

    • Previous experience providing safety & health support to a corporate support organization is preferred; support of a generation plant is a plus.

    • Previous experience with delivering presentations to large group audiences is preferred

    • Previous experience working under or implementing of safety and health management systems is a plus.

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

    • Must be highly motivated and possess strong self-initiative.

    • Experience in a leadership role is desired.

    • Must possess the ability to work independently and is recognized as catalyst and change agent; willingness to challenge the status quo.

    • The successful individual must possess the ability to develop into and be recognized as the subject matter expert in safety and health issues.

    • Must have excellent communication skills, both oral and written.

    • Must be able to communicate with all levels of employees and management

    • Ability to interpret safety rules and regulations.

    • Must possess good analytical skills.

    Other Requirements

    • Very good computer skills in MS Word, Power Point and Excel

    • Previous experience with SharePoint is a plus

    • Research and analytical skills

    • Overnight travel required
