Industrial Hygienist - Georgia Power Headquarters, Downtown Atlanta

Location: 241 Ralph McGill Blvd, Atlanta 30308

JOB SUMMARY

The Industrial Hygienist position is responsible for recognizing and evaluating potential occupational health hazards, for recommending and developing control measures that are designed to eliminate or mitigate potential for occupational illness, and to comply with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations.

NOTE: Significant travel is required throughout Georgia service territory, including some overnight travel .

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Hygiene, Natural or Physical Science strongly preferred

  • Master's Degree is a plus

Work Experience/Technical knowledge

  • Good working knowledge of industrial hygiene principles and practices

  • Prior experience performing such practices as air sampling, noise measurements and report writing

  • Working knowledge of state of the art personal protective equipment and engineering control measures

Legal/Regulatory knowledge

  • Good working knowledge of OSHA rules, regulations, policies, and procedures

  • General knowledge of environmental laws and regulations that are inter-related with OSHA rules (SARA, TSCA, RCRA, NESHAPS, AHERA, and state equivalents)

Knowledge, Skills & abilities

  • Good verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to interact with all levels of employees

  • Ability to work with and through others in a team environment

  • Ability to perform duties with a moderate level of guidance and direction

  • Demonstrated behaviors that are consistent with Southern Style values defined as: Total Commitment, Superior Performance and Unquestionable Trust; as well as proven safety leadership which meets the company's safety policies/procedures

Other Requirements

  • Must have a current valid driver's license

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide industrial hygiene consultative services for internal clients

  • Evaluate and interpret rules/regulations

  • Render advice on specific compliance measures

  • Conduct employee exposure assessments

  • Develop and deliver compliance and training programs

  • Assist in implementation and maintenance of industrial hygiene programs

  • Serve as a resource on auditing teams

  • Significant travel throughout Georgia service territory, including some overnight travel
