The Opportunity
This position is based out of Pleasanton, CA, Burlington, MA or Atlanta, GA locations in Abbott’s Heart Failure (HF) Division. In Abbott’s Heart Failure (HF) business, we’re developing solutions to diagnose, monitor and manage heart failure, allowing people to restore their health and get on with their lives. This role will reside in our Product Stewardship team, which focuses on Global Product Stewardship Regulations. The group supports both CardioMEMS HF and MCS product franchises within the Heart Failure business unit.
The Product Stewardship Engineer / Specialist will support the Heart Failure Division’s Product Stewardship program. This role will ensure HF products compliance with global regulations regarding material usage for our life-saving medical devices. This role is part of the Heart Failure Global Operations team. In this role, you will work cross-functionally with teams in Quality, Regulatory Affairs, Research and Development, Manufacturing, and Global Supply Chain. This role will also collaborate with the corporate Product Stewardship team.
What You’ll Work On (Job Duties)
- Ensure compliance with applicable Product Stewardship legislation. Current legislation includes but is not limited to: REACH-like, RoHS-like, EU MDR, EU BPR, EU POPs, CA Prop 65, US Conflict Minerals, and EPR (WEEE. Battery, Packaging).
- Help to implement an effective, written product stewardship program to ensure compliance with Abbott procedures and regulations.
- Assess applicable chemical registration requirements for chemicals/preparations prior to manufacture, importation, or sourcing within a region.
- Assess parts, products, and packaging for applicable chemical use requirements prior to sale and periodically thereafter.
- Collect part, packaging and product information to support regulations and ensure data is kept up to date.
- Coordinate data collection from suppliers and TPMs (e.g. product composition, Conflict Minerals form, compliance declarations).
- Contribute to the product stewardship strategic planning process that includes an annual evaluation of effectiveness and compliance of the program through self-assessment, risk assessments, product, and regulatory changes.
- Develops, implement, and manage the global Product Stewardship program for the coordination, prioritization and tracking of regulatory activities.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in science or engineering with 5+ years of product support in one or more of the following functional areas: R&D, operations, technical support, quality or regulatory.
- Experience in product stewardship (e.g. REACH, RoHS) preferred, otherwise, experience with regulation interpretation and compliance is required.
- Experience working in a broader enterprise/cross division business unit model. This individual will need to work with R&D, operations, technical support, quality, regulatory, legal, engineering, and supply chain/procurement.
- Must possess data analytical, critical thinking, problem solving, and planning skills.
- Must use sound judgement and ability to build and maintain relationships with individuals and teams.
- Ability to work in a highly matrixed and geographically diverse business environment.
- Strong organizational and follow-up skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to travel approximately 10%.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in product stewardship (e.g. REACH, RoHS, Conflict Minerals)
- Experience with product bill of materials.
- Experience using Excel to analyze data to draw conclusions.
