Job Description Serves as primary oversight/liaison for construction, renovation, demolition, and general maintenance projects to reduce the potential risk of exposure and transmission of infectious organisms and other harmful exposures to patients, visitors, staff, and community. Ensures safe construction practices related to dust, noise, odor control exposures, indoor air quality, building envelope physics, material staging, plumbing tie-ins, and variable volume HVAC systems. Designs best practice plans for providing the best possible phasing protection for patients, visitors, and Children's Healthcare of Atlanta clinical and environment of care services.
Experience
Experience in indoor air quality analysis
Experience in monitoring hazardous exposure such as asbestos and lead
Experience in public health, consulting, manufacturing, or the construction design build field
Experience in the use of computer databases and pivot tables
Experience in areas of organization, public speaking/presentations, layered communication, and teaching the adult learner
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree
5 years of experience in industrial hygiene
Education
Bachelors degree in Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Hygiene, or related science
Certification Summary
Valid Georgia driver’s license
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Skills in policy development for eliminating and improving occupation exposure routes
Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team with the ability to multitask and prioritize as emergencies arise
Job Responsibilities
Reviews and makes recommendations regarding plans for healthcare construction design and renovation.
Prepares/initiates Proactive Infection Control Risk Assessment/Infection Control Risk Assessment in conjunction with Infection Prevention, Facilities Planning, and Construction teams.
Performs various environmental monitoring, including air, water, and surface contamination as needed to identify potential exposure risks.
Identifies areas where there is a potential exposure to hazardous substances and communicates findings to Facilities Management via written and verbal reports.
Trains identified individuals in accordance with established training programs, including training on personal protective equipment, proper work practices, engineering controls, and other safety related topics.
Responds to emergencies involving infectious and/or hazardous substances.
Maintains appropriate knowledge of current regulations, industry standards, and institutional policy dealing with hazardous materials, indoor air quality, infection control construction standards, and risk assessments.
Provides input on industry developments for improved hospital designs as relates to indoor air quality and water quality initiatives for protecting high-risk, immune-compromised patients and vulnerable clinical service areas.

Supports Legal and Risk Management for applicable environmental risk coverage areas and annual audit.
Ensures compliance to regulatory requirements for fostering an environment which prevents and/or minimizes exposure to hazardous materials, products, and practices.
Provides 24/7 coverage in the event of infection prevention and industrial hygiene emergencies.
